190th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery: A Stele in Tribute to Anna Van Bengal at Frederik Hendrik Historical Site

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Frederik Hendrik Historical Site hosted a landmark ceremony commemorating the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. On the occasion, a plaque and stele were unveiled in tribute to Anna Van Bengal, an iconic figure of that historic period.
The event was held in the presence of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahendra Gondeea, Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Hon. Ashok Kumar Subron, as well as Junior Minister of Arts and Cultural, Hon. Marie Veronique Leu-Govind, and from Hon'ble Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister for Gender and Family Welfare.
Other personalities were also present including the Honorable Babita Thannoo, Christian Harold Richard Duval, Dhananjay Ramful, Jean Sydney Pierre, Kuvalayan Kugan Parapen, as well as MP Manoj Seeburn, Ashley Ramdass, Gilbert Tony Apollon and Chitraduthsing Lukeeram.
